Coaching and a Litigated Divorce

Even under the best of circumstances, divorce is emotionally disruptive.  Litigated divorce, especially a contentious one, can be particularly stressful for clients and their families.  Working with a divorce coach in this context provides the client with the emotional support and guidance to successfully navigate through this difficult transition.

Research demonstrates that 80% of the time and energy spent in the divorce process is emotional, 20% is legal and financial.  The ability to stay focused on the issues during a litigated divorce may be frequently derailed by adversarial tactics, manipulations, and miscommunications.  When emotions flare, both client and attorney can become distracted resulting in costly delays.  Divorce coaching concentrates on engagement strategies that minimize conflict and emotional disruption, keeping the process on point.  A major function of the coach is to provide the structure and guidance that help clients separate their emotional issues from legal matters.  The ability to set realistic expectations and to identify and clearly communicate their concerns enables clients to make informed, rational decisions rather than emotional ones.  Acting as a personal mentor, the coach provides a resource that allows clients to safely express and effectively cope with the anger, pain, and distress faced during a divorce.   Successfully managing the emotional side effects that often impede progress allows the client to maintain direction and balance through the process.  Consequently, the attorney is free to concentrate on the business and legal aspects of the case fully focused on the best interest of the client.
